Tupac-on-full-blast-on-the-drive-home kind of day

So, there was an incident today at work that I'm not quite ready to dissect, but let's just say that my former boss sent me the most inappropriate childish email today that made me bawl with anger. At work. After getting such much-needed, just in the knick of time advice from my dad, I deleted my response, and chose to respond with silence. Because that usually drives the crazy people nuts, right? Not getting a rise out of you?

I was still so angry after work that I had the best workout ever, fueling my body with my anger for this immature excuse for a man. That last mile flew by, so perhaps I should thank him tomorrow when I see him at a meeting we both have to attend? "Thanks for being such an infant, you really helped that last mile fly by!"

I bought a box of $9 hair color today on my way home. My hair needs sprucing up, but I would rather spend my allotted hair allowance on a pretty new party dress for J's mom's birthday party this weekend. So here's to hoping that "Havana Brown" helps me get through tomorrow morning's meeting without saying...or doing...anything I'll regret.

Grr. More on that tomorrow.

Oh and 35 more things...

As of 11:17PM EST, I've sneezed 35 times today. Given my 7-in-a-row sneezing habit, you can see how this isn't hard to do.

It started out like this: I woke up this morning, tried to wake up the boyfriend to no avail, as he started mumbling incoherent morning babble, so I hopped in the shower. When I got out of the shower, there he was, crazy-haired J (much like this picture from the Poconos) making bacon (we had bacon?) and eggs. This boy knows how to keep his girl happy. Annnnd...chubby.

And the delicious smell of bacon in the morning made me sneeze. And then I sneezed again. And...you know the rest.

Getting in my groove

After a long grueling day beginning bright and early with a photo shoot, followed by a cram design session, cut short by a job interview (for my own job, long story, we'll save that for later), I finished a project I'd been very excited about.

And working in the dark secretive world of government contracting (sorry, Lex, consulting, consulting, I'm trying to remember that one!) exciting moments are few and far between. Alas, thus is the last two years of my professional life.

So when I waltzed up to this person with proudly printed project in hand, and he took one look at it and said, "This is so beautiful, it makes me want to cry," I almost did, too.

December 14, 2005

This is an entry from my myspace blog on the above date. I had just had my car broken into and the associated negativity was ruining my karma so I was trying to be positive in making this list. It's funny for me to read now, because although a great majority are still true, there are a few that are so long gone, that just make me giggle. Namely, #13.

1. I say "God bless you!" to my dog when he sneezes, which is actually quiet often.
2. If I'm in the car with someone who's going into a gas station, I always ask them to get me a cherry Jolly Rancher lollipop.
3. When paired with Mia, I can eat three baskets of chips at Guads.
4. 80% of the people in my life have no idea how I got the scar on my arm.
5. I think I was born 10 years too late.
6. My favorite smell is gasoline.
7. I will cut off my nose to spite my face, again and again.
8. I actually know what that saying means.
9. I've listened to "Put Your Lighters Up" by Lil Kim three times in a row now.
10. One of the things I'm most excited about doing on my trip home is eating wings at Adobe with Laura.
11. I believe I have some psychic tendencies.
12. When my car was broken in to, (ok, one mention of the unfortunate incident) I had exactly 10 pairs of shoes in my car.
13. I honestly believe the man I'm supposed to end up with is currently married and I'll meet him right after he's been separated from his wife.
14. I whistle all the time but it really annoys me when other people do it.
15. Wet toilet paper on the floor of a public restroom triggers my gag reflex faster than, well, anything.
16. If a relationship with a guy came down to whether or not I'd make Leo stop sleeping on my bed, I'd choose stinky Leo.
17. If life were so awesome that you could have a song play whenever you entered a room (think, "Can't Hardly Wait"), mine would be, "My Best Friend's Girl," by The Cars.
18. I do not think 3 tattoos is nearly enough.
19. I've never seen a single "Rocky" or "Star Wars" movie. And after people freaked out about that, I started avoiding them for the matter of principle.
20. Joannie, I don't know if you read my blogs, but I still miss your mother's lumpia.
21. I go days at a time without listening to my voicemails.
22. I am a firm believer in signs, so much so that I can spend hours discussing them.
23. My favorite word is 'actually' and I say it wayyyy too much.
24. This morning, I took pictures of a wild turkey eating berries on a bush outside my office.
25. If I'm channel surfing, and the movie "Showgirls" (starring the ever-talented Jessie Spano) is on, I have to stop. It's like a train wreck that you can't stop staring at even though it is awful to watch.
26. Sometimes I wish I was Carmella Soprano...actually, most of the time.
27. Despite all the BS, I've never been happier than I am at this very moment.

Chicken soup for Stacy's soul

Yesterday marked the one-week mark of Justin's cold, and the 2-day mark of my own. That's right, for a whole week I kept the sniffles at bay, but they've since descended on me. We were supposed to go to a birthday dinner on Saturday but there was no way that was happening, so we did what we do best; retreat into hermitville. After renting a movie, we made a comfort food feast that would delight any 80 year old: brussel sprouts and chicken soup. It's my mom's chicken soup recipe that we used to make together before I moved out here, and shouldn't everyone have one of those in their arsenol? If you don't, I'll my mom's with you.

Christmas Confetti Chicken Soup
2 c. cooked chicken
6 c. chicken broth
1 package of frozen spinach (thawed/drained/chopped)
1/2 red pepper finely chopped
1/4 onion finely chopped
1/2 t. nutmeg
3 T. butter
3 T. flour
1/2 c. fat free half and half (optional)
(I cook the chopped chicken in the soup pot and then remove and set to the side). Saute red pepper, onion in butter until soft. Add flour, stir, cook for 3 minutes. Stir in chicken broth and let come to a boil and reduce down for about 10 minutes. Stir in spinach, nutmeg, and chicken. If you want, stir in the half and half at the end. The end result is a lovely pot of greens and reds, hence the name.

It's really good, and easy to make, and it makes enough to feed a small army of sick people. I came home today at noon, ate some soup, drank some theraflu, slipped on my eyemask and fell asleep until 6. Delicious!

Back in time

May 16. Mark your calendars. Why, you ask?

Because a miracle has happened.

The above statement is a link to a video...check it out. Didn't mean to be so cryptic!

Repeat after me

I like to think one of my strong suits is what one might call "wordplay." Yes, that's quite nerdy, I know, but it's true. I can't do math, I don't understand science, but I can do words.

One of my most favorite new creations came up in a conversation with my dear friend Bob, who happens to be my favorite punning partner (read: he's also a big nerd). One day I was saying something to him about how compromises are a part of healthy relationships, but the results of a compromise shouldn't leave one party miserable. And then a lightbulb clicked on. Compromise + misery = compromisery.

Compromisery (noun) [cahm-pro-mizz-err-ee]: the state of unhappiness reached after one comes to a less-than-favorable compromise with a spouse/friend/parent/dog/boss/neighbor. Example: "We skipped the Nanny 911 marathon to watch South Park reruns...AGAIN. Someone put me out of my compromisery!"

Go ahead, incorporate it into your daily vocabulary. I think you'll find you've been looking for a word to match that feeling.
